MacMinn Designs Company Information and History

Richard MacMinn and his team of American craftsmen have been making pens for over 10 years from exotic and domestic hardwoods which means that each pen is unique and truly special.

All of our pens are precision made by individual artisans one at a time - there are no automation or assembly line processes used. We use the finest materials available in Gold and Chrome finishes for the metal findings. This ensures that every pen will be made to exacting quality standards and that no two pens are exactly alike.

Most of our wood comes from domestic suppliers, for imported woods we try to obtain our rare and threatened species from plantation raised sources. We purchase some wood from hardwood lumber suppliers as cut and dimensioned lumber. Some of the material, because it is very fragile, is stabilized with resin under pressure and heat. We also purchase most of the laminated woods, but we cut and dye some of it with exotic dyes (Mrs. Stewart’s Laundry Bluing!)

Customers occasionally supply their own wood from a treasured tree lost in a storm, a branch from a childhood family yard, or in the case of a wood products trade association, from salvaged wood after a forest fire. We can make a pen from practically any wood source as long as it is aged and dry. Keep in mind that grain that is attractive in a large piece of furniture may be very bland in a small pen.

If you have custom requests, give us a call or e-mail us.

Our products are covered by a one year repair or replacement warranty (that is, of course, a car doesn’t run over yours!)
